Duccio Raffaelli è nato a Firenze nel 1983.
Frequenta da ragazzo la bottega nei periodi estivi ed impara presto sotto la guida dei
genitori la tecnica della stampa al torchio calcografico.
Appassionato di viaggi e di teatro matura esperienze all’estero acquisendo e praticando la lingua inglese e frequentando laboratori e scuole di recitazione.
Con uno sguardo sempre nostalgico verso Firenze, sente la necessità di tornare dalla famiglia e conclusa l’accademia teatrale di Roma, nel 2014, decide di apportare il suo contributo al negozio, aiutando i genitori con la clientela straniera e l’utilizzo delle nuove tecnologie.
Trova presto interesse nella decorazione delle cornici, sperimentando e ricercando grazie anche al vasto assortimento di opere in galleria.
Impara la coloritura all’acquerello e la tecnica incisoria realizzando soggetti suoi e si occupa di esportare il made in Italy tramite fiere locali ed internazionali.
Gianni Raffaelli è nato a Firenze, nel popolare quartiere di San Frediano, nel 1952.
Figlio d’arte, segue il padre pittore nel Venezuela, dove il genitore gode di una certa notorietà, e vi trascorre buona parte della sua adolescenza.
In mancanza di scuole ad indirizzo artistico qualificate segue studi di carattere scientifico presso la scuola superiore di lingua italiana di Caracas conseguendo la maturità nel 1972.
Un anno dopo, intenzionato a continuare gli studi, torna a Firenze, e nella città natale trova interessi e stimoli che lo spingono a riprendere lo studio della pittura e della grafica. Iscrittosi all’Accademia delle Belle Arti conosce Vincenzo Volpi e Mario Agostini, gli altri grafici con i quali nel ’76 fonda “L’Ippogrifo”, uno studio laboratorio destinato a diventare un autentico centro per la ricerca dell’antica arte incisoria.
Durante gli anni di quotidiana esperienza ogni aspetto tecnico viene approfondito con professionalità e competenza tali da consentirgli riconoscimenti e consensi che varcano anche il territorio nazionale.
A partire dal 1990 vari sono gli allievi che, avvicinandosi a tali tecniche, hanno trovato nell’autore quel supporto tecnico non facile da riscontrare nelle comuni scuole ad indirizzo artistico.
A conferma di tale professionalità e riconoscimento, la gestione di una scuola di incisione “La Stampa d’Arte” patrocinata dalla Regione Toscana, dalla Provincia di Firenze e finanziata dal Fondo Sociale Europeo.
Nel ‘99 Gianni decide di mettersi in proprio ed aprire nello storico quartiere artigiano di Santo Spirito “L’Ippogrifo Stampe d’Arte”, situato nel Palazzo Machiavelli degli inizi del ‘400.
Qui viene affiancato dalla moglie Francesca che con sensibilità e talento apporta qualità agli acquerelli e alle stampe per bambini.
Francesca Bellesi nasce a Firenze nel 1955.
Stimolata dalla famiglia studia per la maturità magistrale pur avendo consistenti interessi per le discipline artistiche, e si diploma nel 1975.
Nel 1978 incontra Gianni Raffaelli; insieme hanno tre figli.
Per molti anni si dedica alla famiglia manifestando spesso particolari abilità manuali e nel ’99, assecondata dal marito, riprende la sua antica passione artistica.
Inizia così ad accostarsi al lavoro dell’incisione toccando tutti gli aspetti della tecnica, passando dallo stampaggio all’acquerellatura, prima di passare alla realizzazione di acqueforti tutti sue, concentrandosi principalmente su soggetti dedicati ai bambini.
Grazie ad una spiccata sensibilità padroneggia presto l’uso del colore all’acquerello, ritagliandosi un ruolo essenziale nella coloritura delle stampe floreali
Gianni Raffaelli was born in the San Frediano district of Florence in 1952. He spent part of his youth in Venezuela where his father was a well-known painter. Influenced by his father’s creativity, Gianni took to art as a means of capturing the wondrous environment that surrounded him.
It was not an easy time to pursue an art education in Caracas, nor were there suitable schools nearby. Gianni attended an Italian-language high school that offered a science curriculum, graduating in 1972. One year later he returned to Florence to begin studies in Architecture, but it wasn’t the right fit for him. Drawn more and more to the vibrant Florentine art scene, he left the university to pursue advanced pictorial and graphic arts training at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts.
While still a student, Gianni met two other graphic designers, Vincenzo Volpi and Mario Agostini, with whom he founded L’IPPOGRIFO STUDIO D’ARTE in 1977. More than an engraving studio, L’IPPOGRIFO STUDIO D’ARTE became a laboratory for analyzing and adapting ancient engraving techniques. Here Gianni honed his expertise and professionalism, eventually garnering recognition from within and outside Italy, including sponsorship and support from the Province of Florence, the Toscana Region and the European Social Fund. With his expanding reputation, art students began to come to his workshop for the technical support that they could not find in traditional art schools.
In 1999, Gianni moved L’IPPOGRIFO STAMPE D’ARTE to an historic 14th century palazzo located on Via di Santo Spirito in the Oltrarno area. At home amid a community of artists’ ateliers, Gianni works side by side with his wife, Francesca Bellesi, a talented watercolorist, and their son, Duccio Raffaelli, who manages the retail shop, studio tours and marketing. Visitors are warmly welcomed to their shop/studio where they can see the artists at work, get an overview of the process, and freely browse more than 500 pieces, framed and unframed, which span Gianni’s extensive career.
Gianni and Francesca’s son Duccio Raffaelli was born in Florence in 1983. As a boy he attended summer workshops in the studio and learned under their guidance how to print using the chalcographic press. His first adult passions were for travel and theater, which he indulged with foreign travel (where he learned to speak English) and acting classes at the Theatre Academy in Rome. Yet his mind’s eye always returned to Florence, and eventually his body followed as he felt the need to return to family. In 2014, he refocused his talents on L’IPPOGRIFO STAMPE D’ARTE, helping his parents with foreign customers and instituting technologies to facilitate their business. In the process, his own artistic soul expanded in several directions: experimenting and creating unique artistic frames that enhance the beauty of his parents’ etchings, learning the precise and patient art of water coloring, and practicing engraving so that he could create his own subjects. By taking care of the export market through local and international art fairs, Duccio frees his parents to devote themselves to their time-honored “Made in Italy” art form.
L’Ippogrifo’s Francesca Bellesi is a native Florentine, born in 1955. Encouraged and supported by her parents to pursue her artistic interests, she went on to study psychology in university. In 1978, she met Gianni Raffaelli, a happy union of the arts that blossomed into a family. During the years Francesca spent at home raising three children, she also deepened her artistic skills. In 1999, with the opening of the present location of L’IPPOGRIFO STUDIO D’ARTE, she joined her husband in the atelier to give full expression to her artistic abilities. She immersed herself in the art of Acquaforte, learning all aspects of the technique including molding and watercolor. She took special delight in creating subjects of her own, particularly art that related to children (of which many charming examples are in the shop’s collection) and the delicate and essential hand-coloration of floral etchings and other images.
